On Thursday, June 5th, you can catch two different shows for free that I’ll be a part of. The first takes place at the Someday Lounge, where I’ll be playing the happy-hour set with Drew Shoals starting at 5 o’clock. Then, at 9 o’clock, you can find me playing trio with guitarist Mike Pardew and bassist Dave Captein as part of Mike’s Cuerda Jazz Series at Vindahlo (a fabulous Middle-East/Eastern restaurant on SE 20th and Clinton).
In other news, JazzPDX.org continues to go smoothly with frequent updates about shows in the area. Soon, I’ll be launching PDXMusicSource, a website that will be set up a lot like JazzPDX, but will feature all styles of music in Portland, not just jazz. If you are an artist and would like to be featured on the new site, send an e-mail to admin@pdxmusicsource.com
I’m happy to announce that I’ll be playing at "The Cave" on Friday, 5/16. The Cave is Portland’s newest jazz venue and promises to be a great place. I stopped by last night to hear Alan Jones play and thought the venue was perfect for jazz.
I’ll be playing the show with Clay Giberson on keys, Chris Mosley on guitar, and Randy Rollofson on drums. Music starts at 8 PM - minors welcome until 9:30. There’s a $5 cover charge.
It’s been a while since I’ve updated here - here’s what’s coming up soon:
- I’ll be playing trio with Russ Kleiner and Clay Giberson at Wilf’s this Friday (5/2). Music starts at 8 PM.
- On Saturday, I’ll be playing at Holocene with a new project of Ben Darwish’s - a live band trading songs and collaborating with DJ Ohmegga Watts.
May will be a busy month - keep checking the calendar for more updates.
Check out the blog page (blog.johnnastos.com) for a couple videos from a recent Tony Starlight’s gig with Shelly Rudolph.
Shelly and I will be putting on a concert on April 17th at the Hollywood Music Center. The show is at 7:30 PM and has a $5 cover which includes refreshments. We’ll be playing a variety of original music and jazz standards.
